To empower women through football, growing the sport of women’s football, and giving back to the community.
Accountability – Community – Elite
Accountability: We are accountable to ourselves, our teammates, and our community. We are Riot everyday, everywhere and hold ourselves to a higher standard.
Community: We are continually building and strengthening our relationship with the football community and focusing on opportunities to give back to our partners.
Elite: We are an elite football program and we conduct everything we do accordingly. We are committed to always getting better.
We are Regina’s only elite-level women’s tackle football program. Established in 2011, the Riot have been members of the Western Women’s Canadian Football League (WWCFL) since the leagues inception. Competing against teams from Saskatoon, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Lethbridge, and Grande Prairie, the Riot have been perennial championship contenders, never finishing worse than second in their conference. In July 2015, the Riot claimed their first title by defeating the Edmonton Storm in the WWCFL Championship Game. They also went on to win back-to-back championships in 2017 and 2018.
But we’re more than just football players. We are students. We are business owners. We are mothers. We are volunteers within the Regina community. And we’re committed to growing the sport of women’s football in this city, in this province, and in this country.
What does it take to be #LikeARiot? It takes discipline. It takes commitment. It takes respect.
We demand a lot from our players, because they demand a lot from us. Prior to the 2015 season, an official team policy was put into place by the Board of Directors. This document outlines the expectations placed on all Riot players, coaches, and staff. To review this document click on the button below.
President
Morgan joined the Board of Directors in 2020 as a Member at Large and recently moved to President in 2021. Morgan previously spent five years with the organization as a coach, Defensive Coordinator and as Head Coach in 2019. He has coaching experience at a CJFL, high school and various minor football levels.
Vice President
Mike is currently in his fifth full year serving as Vice President on the Regina Riot Board of Directors. He initially took on the role of Member at Large in 2015 and moved into the role of Vice President up reposition of board members. Mike was involved in the initial selection process of the inaugural board and with the team itself.
Mike is currently the Director of Football Operations for Football Saskatchewan. Prior to his position with Football Saskatchewan, Mike played for the U of R Rams and was selected by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the 2004 CFL College Draft. Mike has also had the opportunity to coach minor, high school and junior football. Giving back to football is what has inspired Mike to be a part of the Regina Riot and its board as football has provided so much for him.
Treasurer
Amanda joined the Board of Directors in the fall of 2018 as Treasurer, bringing a strong financial and strategic professional background to the board.
Athletically, Amanda played for the Riot as a running back and receiver from 2013-2016 and prior to that played NCAA Division I Hockey (2005-2009) on a full athletic scholarship and also competed nationally as an amateur golfer.
Amanda is passionate and dedicated about growing women’s athletics and is excited to contribute to and build on the success of the organization and women’s tackle football as a whole.
Secretary
Matthew is currently serving in his fifth year as Secretary on the Regina Riot Board of Directors. He was originally voted to the board in October of 2015. Prior to this role, he had served as the Riot’s wide receivers coach in 2013 and 2014.
Matthew was born and raised in Regina, where he played high school football at Dr. Martin LeBoldus High School. Though undersized, Matt would continue his football career with the Bishops University Gators and the Vancouver Island Raiders, where he would win two CJFL national championships. Matthew finished his playing career with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.
The game of football provided Matthew with many opportunities and he felt that he needed to give back to the game. Aside from the Riot, he has spent time coaching for the Regina NFL Flag Football League, Regina Minor Football and most recently at Miller High School. When he’s not dedicating his time to football, Matt is a Realtor at Royal LePage Regina.
