The Riot’s preparations for 2022 are underway

It seems like the 2021 mini season just wrapped up, but the Regina Riot is already working on the 2022 campaign. Close to 40 players, including 20 that are new to the Riot, took part in the Riot’s annual winter camp at Moose Jaw’s Yara Centre on December 11, under the direction and watchful eyes of the coaching staff.

“It was great to get back out on the field,” said head coach Kris Hadesbeck. “From a coaching perspective, it was helpful to see how the veteran players are progressing with their offseason training, and to give the new recruits their first taste of tackle football. Some of them look to be exceptional athletes, so that’s a definite plus!”

Next up for the Riot is the annual team kickoff meeting in January, officially launching preparations for the 2022 season. Anyone who plans to play for the Riot (or wants to learn more) in 2022 should try to attend. After that, twice weekly practices will begin in February. Watch the Riot’s social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) for details. In the meantime, if any prospective players want more information on the team, the league, or women’s elite football, email coach Hadesbeck at reginariothc@gmail.com.

“The Riot continue to strive to field an elite-level team, and give women the opportunity to play the sport at the highest level,” said coach Hadesbeck. “I strongly encourage anyone to consider coming out. Whether you have played football before, or are coming from another sport, the Riot has a spot for you.”

“The winter camp couldn’t have been a better success for us this year,” said veteran quarterback Josie Shannon. “That makes the team even more excited for the upcoming season. We’ve continued to push through trying times and challenges, and have come out stronger on the other side together. We will be waiting anxiously to step out on the field against the other WWCFL teams in 2022!”
