RIOT BEGIN PREPARATION FOR 2017

It’s still only January, but the Regina Riot have already started preparing for the upcoming 2017 season.

The Riot held their first official team meeting on Thursday, January 26th at Luther High School. Members of the Board of Directors, coaching staff, support staff, as well as current and potential new players all gathered to discuss team’s goals for the upcoming season. Head Coach Shawn McCall spoke to the whole team, outlining the commitment he expects from his team on and off the field in order to be #LikeARiot. Afterwards, the offense and defense split up to spend time with their positional coaches.

While optional team training sessions have already been taking place for weeks, the Riot will begin their official preparation for the new season with their first practice on February 2nd. It’s the first step on a long road that everyone involved hopes will lead to a championship season in 2017.

Things may be kicking off soon, but if you’re interested in joining the Riot it’s not to late. Visit our Contact Page, send us a note, and we will get you the information you need.

WWCFL SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED

The WWCFL has announced a tentative schedule for the 2017 season.

This year’s schedule is a bit different than year’s previous. To accommodate the 2017 IFAF Women’s World Championship in July, the WWCFL season will be wrapping up on June 10th. This change necessitated the removal of the Conference Semi-Finals from the playoff structure, as well as the removal of all bye weeks.

The Regina Riot’s schedule is as follows:

April 29th: Regina Riot vs. Calgary Rage (Neutral Field Preseason Game in Medicine Hat)

May 7th: Regina Riot vs. Manitoba Fearless

May 13th: Regina Riot @ Saskatoon Valkyries

May 21st: Regina Riot vs. Saskatoon Valkyries

May 28th: Regina Riot @ Winnipeg Wolfpack

June 3rd: Conference Finals Weekend

June 10th: WWCFL Championship Weekend

While no official game start times or locations are available yet, expect the Riot to host their home games at old Mosaic Stadium for one last year. It is also anticipated that the Riot will continue their tradition of hosting the Valkyries in a much-anticipated evening game. These details will be confirmed over the next few months.

RIOT TO DON NEW JERSEYS IN 2017

The Regina Riot are hoping that the “look good, feel good, play good” mantra holds true this year. That’s because thanks to a generous donation from sponsor Banbury Plumbing & Heating, the Regina Riot will be getting new jerseys for the first time in team history.

The Riot’s current jerseys have been worn since the team’s inaugural season in 2011, and the update is long overdue. After six years, many of the current jerseys are worse for wear. Banbury Plumbing and Heating, a sponsor of the Riot since day 1, had noticed this and were eager to jump on board to help cover the cost of the new threads.

While a new look has not been finalized yet, don’t expect any major changes to the traditional red, silver & black colour scheme. The jerseys will be worn for the first time during the Riot’s regular season home opener against the Manitoa Fearless on May 7th.
